Prestley Country Park /

Prestley Country Park

Prestley Country Park is at the south east corner of the development and stretches to the edge of Huntingdon on the A141. Currently farmland, it will provide 65 hectares of parkland — which is just a bit smaller than Hinchingbrooke Park (72 hectares).

Country Park framework

There are a number of inherited features which will shape the future plans of the Country Park, but also lots of ideas we have gathered from earlier consultations. We want to share the latest thinking on how the Park will come forward and introduce the partners we will be working with, Nene Park Trust, who will work with the community to bring the park to life

Habitats and setting within the Country Park include:

Woodland

Map of Prestley Country Park showing woodland areas
  • Woodland planting to respect and enhance Prestley Wood.
  • Trees to provide a richer backdrop and screen views of USAF base to improve setting.
  • Woodland and hedges to create valuable habitats for nature.
  • Species of woodland to be planted would reflect the local and natural mix of species. The mix also considers the role of species for carbon capture, habitat creation, and climate resilience.

Grassland

Current design proposals:

  • Creation of grassland habitats will provide biodiversity gains and valuable habitat areas.
  • Strengthening green infrastructure links to the Great Stukeley Railway Cutting (SSSI).
  • The area around Prestley Wood to be designed as an open grass area in a parkland setting, providing space for recreational use.
  • Expanses of speciesrich meadow grassland, featuring informal mown paths, will give greater benefits to people and wildlife.
