Prestley’s past and future

Prestley Park is named after the historic wood which lies at the heart of the Park.

Scheduled Ancient Monument

Within Prestley Wood is a Scheduled Ancient Monument that marks the site of a 13th Century manor house of some significance, as it has a double moat around it to mark the importance of the family who lived there. Now the wood provides the opportunity to create an enchanting open space where the house once stood, surrounded by historic woods, including examples of the famous Huntingdonshire Elms, which were once dominant across the local area.

Nene Park is the Charitable Trust that runs a range of parks, nature areas and recreation facilities around Peterborough. They are supporting Urban&Civic to develop the right structure, governance and design for the Country Park, working with Alconbury Weald and Stukeleys’ residents as well as our partners at Stukeleys Parish Council and Huntingdonshire District Council.

Over the next year the Nene Park team will help design the plans for the Country Park, and work with Urban&Civic and the community to develop long term plans for the delivery and management of the Country Park. Work will start in 2024, but the Country Park will be delivered in phases over many years, starting in the northern half.
