Garland Park

Garland Park follows the historic footprint of one of the taxiways used by aircraft when Alconbury Weald was a military base.

Garland Park

Garland Park is named after Donald Garland, who flew from RAF Alconbury and helped delay the Nazi advance across Belgium in 1941.

It now provides safe walking and cycling routes between the primary school, homes and the future Runway Park. It is being delivered in three phases, and work is now starting on the final phase.

The current areas of Garland Park include:

  • informal recreational spaces.
  • a range of play opportunities along the length of the park — from wild play and open spaces, to equipped play areas.
  • community orchards.
  • hedgerows, avenues of trees, ornamental and shrub planting.
  • wildflowers and other ecological features.
  • a walking and cycling route, with seating and picnic benches.
